We’re often asked what the difference is between The Ghan & The Ghan Expedition, and the answer is really simple; direction!

The southbound journey is called The Ghan Expedition and it lasts four days, running from April to October, whereas the

northbound journey is just the three days. The extra day on the Expedition is spent in the fascinating opal mining town of Coober Pedy.
