- No land beneath your feet. The North Pole is floating sea ice, not solid land
- Extreme day-night cycle. The sun rises in March and doesn’t set until September, then darkness lasts for six months.

- They are marine mammals. Polar Bears spend so much time on sea ice, they are officially classified as marine animals, like whales and seals.

- Not actually white. Their fur is transparent and hollow, and their skin underneath is jet black to soak up the sun’s warmth
- Massive but Stealthy. Adult males can weigh up to 600kg, yet they can move silently across ice like ninjas. They can swim over 100km in one stretch.
- Cubs are tiny. Newborn polar bears are about the size of a guinea pig. They stay in a snow den with their mother until they are 3 months old and 10-15kg
